P7 make panels for Temple
“Temple” (Temple Project - Derry~Londonderry) is a peacemaking project by Californian artist David Best, conceived and produced by Artichoke and supported by Arts Council of Northern Ireland. Members of the local community in Derry~Londonderry worked with Best and his team to build an elaborate temporary artwork which will be visible across the city. Artist David Best is famous for his soaring ornately-carved temples, which are ceremonially burnt at the end of the Burning Man Festival that takes place each year in the Black Rock Desert, Nevada, USA. After a short presentation, the pupils were asked to create a design within the space given, which reflected the meaning of the Temple Project. This could have the theme of Peace, Remembrance, Hope, Forgiveness, Loss, Renewal, Joy and had a personal meaning to them. The work of Ria and Mary was selected to be laser cut FAB LAB and form part of Temple which can be viewed by the public later in the month.
