Procedure Writing in Primary 7

We made paper aeroplanes in class by following instructions.  We then had we had to write procedural instructions for our own paper aeroplanes.  We had a competition to see whose aeroplane went the furthest.  Leah’s design made by Conor flew the furthest.  Odhran and Lucy were the runners up, Odhran making Lucy’s design and Lucy making Odhran’s design.

Here are some helpful hints if you are completing a piece of procedural writing.

Make sure that you have:

  • A clear goal/aim
  • A list of materials/requirements
  • A clear method
  • (evaluation – optional)

Guidelines:

  • Use a verb to start sentences (no you, I, we, etc)
  • Use linking words where appropriate (first, then, next, when)
  • Give only factual information (shape, size, colour, amount, etc)

Give information on:

  • How (carefully, quickly)
  • Where (on, into, beside)
  • When (after, when)
